Rochelle, I’m sorry about your dog but WHAT does this have to do with anything?
Hang tight. Promise, it will make sense in a moment.
Let’s move to the human race…specifically me. Since we’ve been home the past 2 weeks, I’ve been fighting getting sick. Both of my men have already come down with colds. I’ve been doing everything in my power nutritionally to keep from getting it, all while continuing my workout regimen. Yesterday I woke up officially with a sore throat and body aches. Uncle Ugg.
Do you see where we are headed? Basically Dakota and I have a lot in common…mainly we AREN’T listening to our body. I think we are all guilty of this from time to time. We get moving in a direction, on a path, with a goal in mind. Darn it, nothing is going to stop us. There does come a point, however, where if we don’t listen to our body, our body is eventually going to scream at us and make us listen.
If you are under the weather, don’t hesitate for a moment to rest. No guilt. As I always remind people, this “fitness thing” is for life…and life will happen. Taking a few days off…or weeks if it fits the situation…isn’t going to make or break you. Actually I take that back. It WILL make you.
Our immune system needs to fight whatever illness we have, and it works more efficiently when it’s not under stress. If you do strenuous exercise while ill, you actually can further compromise your immune system, which can prolong an illness (note to self.) Instead you need to rest, drink plenty of fluids, have your Shakeology daily to keep up your nutrition, read a good book, and let your family pamper you a little. I’m going to be real here…my throat was hurting so much in the middle of the night that when my child brought me ice cream, I gladly accepted it. *Don’t ask why he was awake…it would be an entirely different article. 😉
As you start to feel better, ease back into your routine slowly. Give yourself grace. Before you know it, you’ll be back 100% and moving forward stronger than ever!
P.S. I’m writing this from my bed.
