The Ultimate Freedom
by Rochelle Griffin
Independence Day is tomorrow…a day celebrating our freedom as a nation. It has particular meaning in our home because my husband is a military man. Lord willing, he’ll be retiring at the end of next year.
Before I met him, he was a Marine (to all the Marines out there, I know I know…once a Marine, always a Marine. Semper Fi!) When we met however he was out of the service, and we went about our lives…dating, engagement, marriage. We lived in our own little blissful bubble until…
September 11, 2001.
Our son was literally one-week old when we watched the Twin Towers come crashing down. I wanted to throw up.
Within a few weeks, my hubby felt that he NEEDED to do something. I couldn’t say no. Suddenly my bubble no longer existed. Our freedom had been violated.
He joined the Florida National Guard.
Over the past 12+ years, we’ve endured 2 wartime deployments and multiple in-state “disaster” deployments. The separation, particular the overseas deployments, brought changes to our family. We had to deal with multiple issues that aren’t unique to our family…any military family with understand…relationship issues, being a single parent, dealing with the angry child who doesn’t understand. It was hard. Can’t lie.
The initial deployment almost 8 years ago is what catapulted me to make the decision to leave nursing and become an entrepreneur. I needed the freedom to be wherever I was needed at the moment.
Now here I sit on the other side, having gone through the fire, and I am so incredibly appreciative.
We are getting ready to open another business…one that my son has watched step by step & had a hand in creating…one that we are doing purely for the pleasure of it. Posh Pooch Boutique is our brainchild because our oldest dog is currently dealing with cancer. We wanted to offer organic, healthy dog treats that WE would be comfortable eating as well.
Anyways, I digress. My point is that I love what I do…all 3 businesses. I only need a smartphone, laptop, & Internet, and I can run our businesses anywhere!
But it’s because of the men and women in our Armed Forces that I’m able to even HAVE these businesses! I’m grateful to live in this amazing country called America. I am a proud American!
Thank you to all the men and women who fight daily for our freedom, to those who have given their lives for our freedom, and for all of the families who keep the homefires burning.
My family is indebted to you.
Happy 4th of July!

Incredible. Awesome. Inspiring. You rock, Rochelle. Thank God for the men and women who fight to protect this nation and our freedom. May God continue to bless you and your family. ~Vicki Silvey
I came here originally because of Sandy S.’s shout out during her product launch class but I’m truly inspired by you and your site. I set a timer thinking I would just spend 15mins looking over what you’re doing and how you’re doing it….2 hrs later I feel like we should meet for coffee because we could totally be best friends.
My husband was in the Air Force when the twin towers went down. My daughter was a year old and laughing from her bouncy seat as I watched it all on TV. I remember wondering if I should still go to work. I did but couldn’t get home that night because I lived on an Air Force Base and it was locked down when I got done with work.
I’m inspired that you are living proof I can fix my health through diet.
I’m inspired that I can make a living blogging and creating community online.
I’m delighted that you mention your Savior as casually as you mention gluten free pizza.
Keep up the good work! You’re amazing! You’re inspiring and you’ve got a new fan! I can’t wait to hear what you say next. Thank you for sharing yourself with me.
How incredibly sweet, Ruth. THANK YOU for taking the time to comment! Have a blessed day. 🙂
