Lifestyle & Adrenal Fatigue
by Rochelle Griffin
Is your lifestyle leading you down the path to adrenal fatigue? After all, no one intends to put himself or herself in adrenal fatigue yet millions upon millions find themselves there. In my honest opinion, I think people just aren’t aware of what they are doing.
Adrenal fatigue occurs when our lifestyle creates chronic stress. In response to the stress, our adrenals (those 2 tiny glands on top of our kidneys) produce the hormone cortisol (our stress hormone) so our body can cope. The longer that the stressors occur, the more our adrenals work…and eventually they become tired and ineffective. Compare this to a car that is driving on gas fumes.
And then BOOM, we are in adrenal fatigue and symptoms follow.
I can hear you now…So, Rochelle, what are some lifestyles that attribute to this? Because if you tell me, I’ll do my darndest to not do those things.
OK, I’m going to give a short list of some of the lifestyles but please know, it will take effort on your part to get the stress out of your life.
Here are some common lifestyle practices that lead to adrenal fatigue:
- Lack of sleep
- Working over 40-50 hours per week
- Not taking a day off from work
- Lack of relaxing activities
- Being in an unhappy relationship
- Pushing self to work or stay awake when tired
- Poor food choices
- Running a successful business
- Drinking alcohol
- Driving self to succeed
Today’s society & expectations can easily send us over that proverbial edge, but we must each take precautions to ensure our own well-being. Even a small change can help protect you. Your health is worth it!
