The Hostess with the Mostest: Parasites Party

Many unsuspecting people are constantly in party-mode, playing host to a variety of GI pathogens including parasites…also known as bugs, microscopic organisms, or worms. Reality is that about half of the people dealing with parasites don’t even have GI symptoms so they don’t know to do anything about it.
The biggest question that I receive most often from my private clients is “WHY did I get this?”
Here’s my simplest explanation:
Stress of any kind in our body, whether from our dietary foods, emotional stress, pain, or hidden stressors, signals our adrenal glands to go into overdrive producing cortisol, our stress hormone, so we can cope. Over time our adrenal glands tire out, don’t produce cortisol like they should, and we end up with adrenal fatigue.
Cortisol is needed to make what’s called Secretory IgA or SIgA. SIgA serves as our GI’s mucosal barrier. This mucosal barrier is like our second skin. Just as our skin protects us from pathogens on the outside of our body, the mucosal barrier protects us when we inadvertently ingest pathogens.
If our mucosal barrier isn’t protecting us like it should, the door is open for us to acquire a variety of pathogens, including parasites, bacteria, and yeast. These pathogens then put more stress on our body and the cycle continues with adrenal fatigue and gut dysfunction in a downward spiral.
The next question I get is “HOW did I get this?” Once the stage is set, it’s just a matter of ingesting the bug. This can occur from water, our foods, our pets, dirt, etc. They are microscopic so you wouldn’t know.
Then I may hear “But I don’t have symptoms!” To which I reply that many people don’t have the typical GI issues one would assume you would have: diarrhea, gas, bloating, irritable bowel, etc. Many times symptoms are in the form of allergies, achy joints and/or muscles, hives, rashes, eczema, fatigue, foggy thinking, etc.
Because of these hidden stressors with odd symptoms, I often recommend that my private clients dealing with adrenal fatigue also run a test for pathogens to be safe. If a pathogen is found, they have a few choices: 1) To see their physician for diagnosis and treatment (always the best but many people don’t desire this route for personal reasons) or 2) To self-treat using natural protocols. While the choice is completely up to them, there are some pathogens that I will insist they see their doctor for as self-treating simply isn’t safe.
To best protect yourself, if you have symptoms of any kind, test…don’t guess. Get yourself tested for both adrenal fatigue and gut dysfunction since they go hand-in-hand.
Many of us live stressful lives, opening ourselves up to symptoms that we accept as “normal.” I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…ANY symptom is NOT normal! Stop accepting them as such. You are your best advocate. Period.
