Consistency: The Newest Curse Word
by Rochelle Griffin
Life is hard. Let’s all just agree to agree on that and get it out of the way. There will always be circumstances arising that can throw us off track. It’s reality. Ok, so now that we are all on a level playing field, what is a common denominator between those who succeed and those who don’t? One word. Consistency.
I see it all the time…people who struggle, who don’t make it, who quit, who don’t achieve their goals. I also see people who do wonderful, who persevere, who achieve personal greatness.
Reality is that 100% of people…yes that includes YOU…can be in the second category…SUCCESSFUL…in health & fitness and/or business.
Let’s start with health & fitness.
I get it. It’s not easy. Especially when we live in a world full of potential indulgences and promises of quick, painless results. The truth is that it’s easier to cave, to sleep late, to eat what’s desired. This truth, however, won’t help any of us meet our goals.
I hear from people all of the time who are “ready” to lose weight, to improve their health, to get into shape. I give advice. It’s not a surprise, however, to hear from them a few months later with the same wants…no further ahead than they were earlier.
Being consistent is tough…sometimes it downright sucks. Even so, if you want to get healthy, you must eat well 80% of the time and workout 5-6 days per week. You also need to throw in a big dose of patience because change doesn’t happen overnight.
Let’s move on to success in business.
I’ve had my company for 6 years and have seen it grow from literally a paycheck under $20 to an international business well into 6 figures. I’ve seen a lot over the years, including more people fail than succeed. So why have “I” been successful? Why has my business made it? Am I one of the “lucky” ones? Do I have a magic formula?
Nope.
It all comes back to consistency.
I’m willing to do the things needed for my business day in and day out, rain or shine, whether I feel like it or not (and trust me…there are plenty of days that I’m totally not feeling it.)
I’m going to be honest here. In the past, I used to feel bad when I saw others quit their business or watch what was once a successful business dwindle away. This was before I truly realized that people are completely responsible for their own business and the choices they make.
I no longer feel bad. Do I feel sad that people don’t see their true potential and what could be? Absolutely. I don’t however internalize or take responsibility for their failure and lack of consistency.
I know this sounds harsh but I want people to understand that they too can be successful. My success isn’t based on magic beans. It’s based in hard, daily work that they could do as well…if they chose to.
In short, YOU are powerful and extremely capable. Whether you have health & fitness goals or aspirations for a lucrative business, you CAN do it! You must Must MUST be willing to be consistent, do the hard work, and be patient. If you can do these things, your dreams can truly become reality.
I’m living proof.
And I believe in you.
The question is Do you believe in you?
