How to Choose the Right Home Based Business for Your Life
By Rochelle Griffin
I have a serious question for you. What do you want your life to look like? Truly. I want you to take a minute before reading on and think about it. What do you want your life to look like and DOES it?
If you resemble the majority of people, you will probably answer no and then feel perhaps sad or frustrated as though you are stuck. After all, how do you get from where you are (Point A) to where you want to be (Point B?)
In today’s economy, often the answer is found in our finances. Many people are stuck in jobs that make them unhappy and stressed out all because they need the paycheck. I get it. I did it for years. There is, however, a way to improve your finances and still be present in your life doing the things that make you happy.
Have you ever considered running your own home-based business?
Even Donald Trump says that if he had to do it all over again, he’d get involved in a home-based business. In fact, let me quote him:
“I would get into network marketing.” ~Donald Trump
You may be thinking that this sounds fantastic, but you don’t have a clue where to even begin. I’m going to give you a few tips to help along the way before you make the decision. These tips are based on both my own personal successes and failures.
Research the opportunities. There are so many amazing home-based businesses available today. The best advice that I can give is to choose something that you are passionate about. If someone is telling you that you can make X amount of dollars, but you aren’t passionate about it, turn and run away fast. Never make your decisions based on money. Lack of passion will equate a lack of success.
Find a mentor you trust and who has walked the walk. Once you’ve decided on the opportunity, your next step is to find someone in the same company who knows what they are talking about and can show you the ropes. Remember…don’t base this decision on money. Instead look at their life. Are they living their life in a way that would make you happy in the same scenario? What steps did they have to take to reach that point? What were the sacrifices? If it involves 50+ hours a week, it may not be something you want. Don’t be afraid to ask questions after all this is about YOUR future.
Read the policy/procedures. Boring, I know but necessary. You need to be sure that you can live within the P&P constraints. If you want to branch out into a store, for example, and it’s against the P&P of the opportunity you are considering, you best look elsewhere.
Decide how you want to grow your business. Belly to belly, on the phone, or via social media. To be in business…any business…you need clients. It’s imperative that you are consistently “filling your funnel.” Never rely solely on the corporate office of your preferred opportunity to do all of the marketing for you. This is a HUGE mistake many home-based business owners make. When you know how you want to grow your client base, it also makes it easier to find the right mentor. Be sure that person is skilled in that area and can point you to the right resources.
Once you’ve decided on your business opportunity, take the plunge. Make the move. Take action. Don’t sit back and analyze everything to death.
Over the past 5 years I have seen my life take a dramatic turn from stressed-out RN working non-stop to a happy mom & wife who has her family by her side as we build a legacy together. If I didn’t take that leap of faith 5 years ago, I too would be saying, “Nope my life doesn’t look how I want it to look.” Instead I can say that my life is exactly how I want it to be.
Don’t despair if you can’t say that…yet. You too can have a successful business AND a successful life at the same time. You simply have to start.
