The Choice of Responsibility
by Rochelle Griffin
According to Webster’s Dictionary, the word “responsible” is defined as “being the one who must meet an obligation or suffer the consequences for failing to do so.” We can use the words “accountable” or “answerable” in place of responsible. Why am I giving a quick English lesson? Because over the last 10, 15, 20 years, people seem to take less and less responsibility for their actions…and then they are shocked by the outcome. Hmmmmmm…
Look we are all adults. We all have choices. In fact, saying that we don’t have a choice is a choice. Ouch. We cannot rely solely on other people for our success, whether in business or with our health & fitness. Of course having a coach is wise….someone who’s walked the walk and can give us guidance. It’s up to us, however, to learn and implement.
We are the ONLY ones who are responsible for our OWN success…or our failure. Now this may be a hard pill to swallow, but our success or our failure can be traced back to our various choices.
Time and time again I see people give their power away then place blame on others when they end up with results that they didn’t want…ie they didn’t drop weight, they didn’t lower their blood pressure, they didn’t succeed in a business venture, etc.
Over the years, I have coached hundreds upon hundreds of people in either their health & fitness or their business. I’ve seen some go on to become wildly successful and I’ve seen others fade into the woodworks. I didn’t do anything different with the various people, so the variable is the people themselves…and their choices.
Pull up a chair. I’m putting my coaching hat on and am going to dish out a dose of tough love. You may love me for it or you may hate me, but I’m going to speak truth.
If you want to lose weight:
Find a coach that you connect with and listen to that person, get the necessary tools that you need to be successful, put a plan into place, get rid of the junk in your kitchen that you know is there. Just do it. Stop talking about it. Stop complaining about how things are. Stop the excuses. Find a way.
If you want a successful business:
Find a coach that you connect with and listen to that person, strive to learn everything you can, read books all the time, don’t wait for someone to tell you how it’s done…take the initiative and find out the information yourself. Just do it. Stop talking about it. Stop complaining about how things are. Stop the excuses. Find a way.
When people come to me, whether for their health or their business, and they are taking responsibility for themselves, it’s easier to sit down together, take an honest look at the situation, and then come up with a workable plan that will yield successful results. People who understand that they are in control of their choices and responses are the ones who I watch succeed time and time again.
If you’re ready to take responsibility and make a positive change in your life, whether in your health or your current financial situation, I’d be honored to help you do so. You simply have to reach out by commenting and we’ll figure it out together…like responsible adults.
