3 Reasons Why You Aren’t Losing Weight
by Rochelle Griffin
Let’s say that you are working out 5, even 6 days per week. You are eating relatively healthy as well. Despite this, you aren’t losing weight. Worse yet, you may actually be GAINING weight! Has this ever happened to you? Is this something that you’re dealing with right now?!?!
I can tell you that this happened to me as well, so I understand first hand the frustration behind it. I was working out 6 days a week…and I’m talking hard home workouts like Insanity and Les Mills Pump. I was eating well…3 meals a day and 2 snacks. Yet over the course of several months, I gained 20 lbs!
Yep, it’s true!
First let’s get real with one another. If you’re working out, but not eating well…ie sneaking in bites from the kids’ plates, an occasional stop at the fast food joint, drinking an adult beverage…you won’t lose weight. If you fall in this category, I can tell you hands down that you aren’t losing weight because of your nutrition. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out. In fact, I’m sure that you already know it as well.
But what if you DON’T fall in that category. What if you can honestly say “Rochelle, swear that I’m eating well! I don’t get this!” If this is you, I may have some answers today.
Here are 3 reasons why you may not be losing weight:
1. Adrenal fatigue
When you are experiencing adrenal fatigue, cortisol (our stress hormone) gets out of balance. This imbalance will cause your body to store body fat instead of burn it. This imbalance basically means that your metabolism is broken. If you are in the later stages of adrenal fatigue, there’s no way to fix this on your own. Only therapeutic intervention will correct it.
Turns out I was in Stage 3 adrenal fatigue, the worst stage.
2. Food sensitivities
When you eat foods that your body is sensitive to, it’s like you’re putting poison in your body. Your body reacts to these foods by “attacking” the particles, which in turn causes inflammation in your body. This inflammation puts stress on your body. At this point, refer back to #1 because this is what will happen over time when you keep eating the offending foods.
BTW sensitivities don’t mean that you’ll bloat or have diarrhea. It can look like PMS, anxiety, fatigue, or depression for example.
Turns out I was sensitive (reactive) to many “healthy” foods including chicken, brown rice, green beans, spinach, and strawberries!
3. Gut dysfunction
When your digestive track isn’t functioning well, you don’t digest foods and absorb nutrients as you should. This leads to food cravings and overeating because your body is crying out for the nutrients that it needs. Although you may not think you’re overeating, unless you’re carefully tracking, you may be. Even over-consuming healthy calories can lead to weight gain.
Also untreated yeast overgrowth (candidiasis) is a common root cause for weight gain.
Turns out my gut was “leaky,” meaning things got through that shouldn’t have.
In short, if you find that you’re at a stand still and everything that you’re doing “should” result in weight loss but isn’t, the absolute best thing that you can do is get lab testing done for adrenal fatigue, food sensitivities, and gut dysfunction. It’s easy to speculate but speculation won’t get you anywhere.
My motto is Test. Don’t Guess.

BTW once I discovered the root cause of my weight gain, I was able to fix it naturally and reset my metabolism again. If I did it, so can you!
